ALLEGED DRUG TRAFFICKER HELD WITHOUT BOND

On July 10, 2007, Brian Keith Gray, age 28, of Jackson, Mississippi, had a Preliminary and Detention Hearing before United States Magistrate Judge James C. Sumner, United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, Gulfport, Mississippi. Judge Sumner ordered Gray held without bond. Gray was arrested for Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine on July 2, 2007 in Jackson, Mississippi. At the time of Gray's arrest, Agents seized 4 kilograms of cocaine, a .45 caliber pistol, a .390 caliber pistol, a 5.56 mm rifle and $21,200.00 in U.S. currency. This arrest was the result of an investigation involving a large scale drug trafficking organization operating in Jackson and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

If Gray is convicted of the Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine charge against him, he could face penalties of up to 40 years in a federal prison and $4,000,000.00 in fines.

Frederick T. Brink, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Mississippi, praised the officers and agents of the law enforcement agencies which cooperated in the investigation and arrest of Gray. "Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Forces of Pascagoula and Jackson, Mississippi contributed to and participated in the successful apprehension of Gray, an alleged drug trafficker. In addition, we appreciate the efforts of U.S. Attorney Dunn Lampton's office in effectively presenting this case to Judge Sumner."

The FBI Safe Streets Task Force is a Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) initiative and receives funding from the Office of National Drug Control Policy in Washington, D.C. It is made up of Special Agents from the FBI and law enforcement officers from the Pascagoula, Moss Point, Gautier, and Ocean Springs Police Departments, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

Brink stressed that there is a presumption of innocence prior to any judicial proceeding.
