DRUG TRAFFICKER ARRESTED IN MOSS POINT
On
May 31, 2007, Trenice L. Johnson, aka "Trent", age 32, of Pascagoula,
Mississippi, was arrested in Moss Point, Mississippi. Johnson was arrested
for Possession With Intent to Distribute Cocaine, pursuant to a federal
warrant issued in United States District Court, Southern District of Mississippi.
At the time of Johnson's arrest, Agents seized a .45 caliber pistol, a
2002 Chevrolet Avalanche Truck and $1,693.00 in U.S. currency. This arrest
is the result of a 2-year investigation involving a large scale drug trafficking
organization operating along the Gulf Coast.
If Johnson is convicted of the Possession With Intent to Distribute charges
against him, he could face a penalty of up to 40 years in a federal prison
and $4,000,000.00 in fines.
Johnson had an initial appearance before United States Senior Magistrate
Judge John M. Roper, United States District Court for the Southern District
of Mississippi, Gulfport, Mississippi, on June 1, 2007. Judge Roper ordered
Johnson held without bond pending a detention hearing on June 5, 2007
at 10:00 a.m.
Frederick T. Brink, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Mississippi,
praised the officers and agents of the law enforcement agencies which
cooperated in the investigation and arrest of Johnson. "Agents of the
Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force of Pascagoula,
Mississippi contributed to and participated in the successful apprehension
of Johnson, an alleged drug trafficker. "
The FBI Safe Streets Task Force is a Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking
Area (HIDTA) initiative and receives funding from the Office of National
Drug Control Policy in Washington, D.C. It is made up of Special Agents
from the FBI and law enforcement officers from the Pascagoula, Moss Point,
Gautier, and Ocean Springs Police Departments, the Jackson County Sheriff's
Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
Brink stressed that an arrest is an accusation only and there is a presumption
of innocence prior to any judicial proceeding.
