MURDER SUSPECT SURRENDERS TO FBI

John G. Raucci, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Mississippi, announced as follows:

TONY MARTIN CAINE, JR., 22, accompanied by his mother, walked into the Chicago FBI office Thursday night and surrendered. CAINE was arrested on a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. The federal complaint, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, charged CAINE with leaving the state of Minnesota with the intent to avoid prosecution for the crime of Murder in the Second Degree.

FBI Agents tracked CAINE to the Jackson area, where he was believed to be staying with relatives. Local media alerted the public to CAINE's presence in the Jackson Metropolitan area, airing his photograph and description on local television and radio broadcasts. As a result, several sightings were reported to the Jackson FBI office. As task force agents began questioning relatives concerning CAINE'swhereabouts in Mississippi, CAINE fled.

Mr. Raucci stressed that arrests are accusations only and there is a presumption of innocence prior to any judicial proceeding.
