John G. Raucci, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Mississippi, and Michael A. Holt, Special Agent-in-Charge, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New Orleans, Louisiana, announced as follows:
Working from information provided by Legat Mexico City and the San Antonio Division of the FBI, AGAPITO GRACIA GRACIA, a Mexican National, age 27, was arrested in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, by FBI Special Agents and Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement at approximately 10:30 a.m. on February 3, 2006.
GRACIA, who was living in the United States illegally, is wanted by Mexican authorities for the murder of a Mexican prosecutor. GRACIA has been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for processing and extradition to Mexico.
"This is a prime example of how effective cooperation among law enforcement agencies can make our communities safer. ICE is working with law enforcement agencies around the globe to protect our communities from violent criminals," said Michael A. Holt, Special Agent-in-Charge of ICE in New Orleans. "The arrest of this alleged murderer should send a strong signal to fugitives worldwide that the world's borders will not serve as boundaries for the law."
