VICKSBURG BANK ROBBER ARRESTED

The man suspected of robbing two Vicksburg banks on Friday was arrested in a joint law enforcement operation with assistance from the public.

Vicksburg Police Detectives, FBI Special Agents, and members of the FBI-led Jackson Violent Crimes Safe Streets Task Force arrested LEVI ANTONIO SCOTT, JR., 25, of Jackson, at a home in downtown Jackson early Tuesday morning. Police received numerous tips identifying SCOTT as the robber from bank surveillance photographs taken during the robbery.

" The combined efforts of the FBI and the task force, the diligence of our investigators, and information from the public were all key factors in the quick solution to this crime," said Vicksburg Police Chief Tommy Moffett.

SCOTT was charged in state court with two counts of bank robbery and transported to the Vicksburg Police Department for questioning. He will make an initial appearance within the next 48 hours in a Warren County court.

"This is a case where our Task Force was in a position to assist the Vicksburg Police and work across multiple jurisdictions in order to make two communities safer," said Stephen F. Gomez, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Mississippi. " The publication and broadcast of the bank surveillance photographs by the Jackson area media greatly assisted in the identification and location of Scott," said Gomez.

The FBI-led Violent Crimes Safe Streets Task Force is made up of Special Agents of the FBI and law enforcement officers from the Jackson Police Department, the Hinds and Rankin County Sheriff's Departments, and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

Chief Moffett and A/SAC Gomez stressed that the charges against SCOTT are accusations only and there is a presumption of innocence prior to any judicial proceeding.
