Jackson, Mississippi — Acting United States Attorney Stan Harris announced today
that STEPHEN BRADLEY BYNUM of Magnolia, Mississippi was sentenced by U.S. District
Judge Tom S. Lee to serve 360 months in prison, followed by a life time term of supervised
release. The 30 year sentence is thought to be the longest ever imposed in the Southern District,
for the crimes charged . The defendant was ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release
from jail.
Additionally BYNUM was prohibited from any type of computer use during the period of
his supervised release unless authorized by his supervising probation officer. He was ordered to
submit to polygraph examination and must participate in sex offender treatment offered either in
the designated institution or at the request of his probation officer.
BYNUM previously pled guilty on January 9th, 2009 to Possession of Child
Pornographic Material in violation of Section 2252(a)(4)(B), Title 18, United States Code and
Section 2254(a)(2), Title 18, United States Code. His guilty plea came after a federal search
warrant was executed on his house in the Pike County community of Magnolia, in the Southern
Division of the Southern Federal Judicial District of Mississippi. Bynum resided with his
mother. Over 1000 images and video clips of child pornography and various computer and
computer related equipment were seized during execution of the search warrant.
The law enforcement personnel involved in this investigation included the Federal Bureau
of Investigation and the McComb Police Department. The District Attorney’s office, which
currently has additional charges pending against Bynum, cooperated in the resolution of the
Federal charges. The case was prosecuted by AUSA’s Don Burkhalter and Glenda Haynes.
