MOSS POINT WOMAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR MAIL FRAUD

Gulfport, Mississippi - United States Attorney Dunn Lampton announced today that

Carlie Christyne Manning, of Moss Point, Mississippi, has been sentenced to 2 years in federal prison for using the United States Mail to embezzle $182,346.69 from her employer.

Manning pled guilty on October 10, 2007 to knowingly initiating the transmission of twenty-eight insurance benefit checks, totaling $182,346.69, through the U.S. mail. Manning worked as a manager overseeing billing for a Pascagoula insurance agency. Through her position, she submitted false claims for insurance benefits in her own name, and as a result received the benefits checks. U.S. District Judge Walter J. Gex III sentenced Manning to two years in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. Manning must also make restitution to the victim in the amount of $182,346.69. The case was investigated by agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney J. Scott Gilbert.
